Designers That Inspire Me

Daniel Buren

Daniel Buren, who specified in site specificity, made me see art differently because I never really saw a landscape as "art" but when he put together a triangle hole so that it focuses the viewer at one point in the landscape, I thought that was pretty interesting because the viewer sees one specific thing and the beauty of that one area of the landscape.

Bebecar Urban Magic Parasol – £26

Bebecar Urban Magic Parasol

Bebecar Urban Magic Parasol designed to help protect your child from the sun. It is essential the your child is comfortable and protected at the same time.

The parasol helps with this and has an extending and flexible arm that allows your to alter the angle of the parasol to provide maximum protection at all times.

Bebecar Urban Magic Parasol: Response

I really like how this design is a rotating umbrella because whichever way the sun's angle is hitting the baby, the parent can adjust the umbrella to satisfy the angle of the sun. The problem with this design is that it is hard to store after you are done using it and want to put it back into a storage area on the stroller, because it is very bulky and long. Maybe if the handle bar retracted it would be better or it all folded onto itself, but that takes a long time.

Mountain Buggy Duet Double Mesh Cover

Mountain Buggy Duet Double Mesh Cover

This cover is good because it covers the whole stroller. I don't like, however, how the material is black and not see through. I would want my cover to be at least a little bit see through so that the parents can see the child and vice versa. The black material is also very stuffy looking and will probably get the stroller carriage hot quickly.

Ripple 4x4 Canopy

Ripple 4x4 Canopy

I like how simple this canopy is because it's basically just a piece of cloth that is stretched out on three different poles to create sort of a triangle. It is made up of a high specification HDPE canopy (sewn with Tenara thread) that blocks up to 98% of harmful UV rays, protecting against skin damage. I like this material but I don't like how you can't see through it specifically.

Dining Canopy

Dining Canopy from BCT Outdoors

This dining canopy helped me reflect on how to connect my shade to the sides of the stroller. This canopy uses strings to tie the canopy tightly to the ground. I'm thinking of maybe using an extra tool like a string or a clip to hold the shade down to the stroller.

Niki Singlaub - Hideaway retractable water bottle

Niki Singlaub - Research for Materials Proj.

I like how Niki Singlaub presents his foldable water bottle as an experience that the user has, as well having a good function of folding up and being portable. I will take from this the whole idea of the product being an experience as well as a usable product.

DIY Wall Plant Holder

DIY Wall hanging plant holder

http://imgfave.com/view/3389005?r=pin

I found this design also on a gardening website. I like how simple this design is and how it attaches to the wall or hangs from above. It can also retract easily and turn into like a row of pots. I think I will incorporate that element into my design.

Plantable Flower Seed Paper

Seed Plantable paper

This is a really good idea for my pot hanger because then I can just have the base be of a mesh material and then put this on top so that the seeds can be planted in it and the user can just water the paper until their plants grow on top of it.

Co-Create Project

Charm Bracelet

I like this idea of being able to add and remove charms or items from the original jewellery. I also like how charm bracelets are collectable kind of items and you can put new charms for every life event that happens to you.

Fishtank Backpack

Fishtank Backpack

Jerry and I were researching and saw this goldfish backpack. I really like the idea of a fashion garment that has some sort of crazy, everyday object in it that you wouldn't have pictured would go in that piece of garment. I love also how it brings life to the person's life (maybe not the most useful or friendly backpack) but it's a cool idea to take a part of life with you wherever you go.

Plant Necklace Redwood

Plant Necklace Redwood

This necklace ties in with our original object because of the fact that it is a necklace and has some sort of living (or once living) specimen in it. I like how this necklace is made of wood even though I still want whatever we make to have some clear/see through material so that they can clearly see it when they look down and can get reminded of whatever special object is in the necklace.

Hanging Glass Terrariums

Hanging Glass Terrariums

I love this Terrarium and how it is glass and see through but also very pleasant. I could see this as a necklace of some sort or some piece of jewellery that can show off something alive and to keep the garden with you as you go about your daily life.

Meaning of our piece

Meaning of our piece

At first, I thought of our piece as a kind of reminder of the earth while we are going about our daily lives. We often go about our lives (especially these days) not noticing the nature around us and get lost in the city and our work. This product makes it so that you can bring nature wherever you go. It's sort of like a life that you take with you and care for while you're living your life. This ties in with our original thoughts about the product we reviewed in the CSM museum, and our thoughts that that necklace was a sort of special personal item that the person wearing it would have like a significance to. Jerry then brought up how we will eventually live in a sort of wasteland like in blade runner and how something as small as a plant will be really valuable to some people in the future and in this day and age is probably valued a lot too. I got inspiration from the Pixar movie Wall-e because wall-e treasures this little plant and takes so much care in it while the rest of the world treats it like trash and leaves it behind. I relate this product to carrying something valuable around with you that maybe only you find value in.

Sol Lewitt

I loved the idea of Sol Lewitt's where art is an instruction guide, and how everyone can be an artist, but it's the creativity that makes artists special. Anyone can put paint on some paper, but the instructions are where the real creativity comes out. Sol Lewitt sold the art as instructions to different people and companies and made it as something you had to assemble and put together.

Muslin Canopy – £10

Muslin Canopy

Keep your baby protected and shaded from the sun with the Muslin Canopy. Easily attached to most hooded prams, it's simple and quick to use, while the black muslin fabric helps create enough darkness for your baby to nap peacefully.

Muslin Canopy: Response

I really like this design because it is simple and comforting for the child. Problems arise, though, for the parent because the parent wants to see the child when they are walking along with the stroller, and this design makes it so that the parent's view of the child is obstructed. The black material also might freak out the child a little bit and black is usually absorbent in the sun, and might heat up the carriage rather than cool it down. I would maybe make the material of the canopy see through somehow and make the material lighter in colour so that it is more comfortable to rest in and to look at. I do like how it is clasped onto the carriage because it hooks onto both the handle and the top of the existing canopy on the stroller. The one thing is that the clips on the carriage come off easily and are a hazard of being lost. This idea, though, of one sheet going across the carriage is an interesting idea though.

Dreambaby Stroller Bag – £9.49

Dreambaby Stroller Bag

The stroller bag by Dreambaby conveniently stores baby has essentials and shopping all in one place whilst out and about. With a wide opening at the top of the bag means you can access baby things easily. This large mesh storage bag fits most strollers, an essential item to take with you when taking trips out or shopping in town with baby. Easily clips onto most strollers and folds away for easy storage when not in use.

Dreambaby Stroller Bag: Response

This design is very clever, because it attaches to the handlebar part of the stroller. This design doesn't allow for more storage than just minor trinkets, but those are the things that trip up a parent and are the things that are most easily lost. I like that the design is scrunched up at the top so that none of the items fall out. A problem with this design, though, is that when the parent has their hands on the handlebar, it is uncomfortable to hold because of the Velcro obstructing the hand's path on the handlebar. Maybe I could make the clasps on the side of the handlebar, where the hands aren't going to be.

Tike Tech Stroller Cover

Tike Tech Stroller Cover: Response

This stroller cover doesn't give much protection against the sun but is good in rainy weather. What I like about this stroller cover is that the parents can see their child when they're stopped and maybe watching their other children or taking a rest. I will try to incorporate this into my design and make it so that the stroller cover is comfortable to sleep in and has holes in it or is see through so that the parent can see the child through the cover.

Exselle Saddle

Exselle Saddle by Walsall Riding Saddle Company is nice because it has an overall function of protecting the rider while having a dual function of storage for the little items like horse groomer tools. I plan to take this into consideration of having the main function of my design as being a shade for the stroller, but also whilst having a little bit of storage for the toys and trinkets that the parent might need to put somewhere. I noticed when looking at how the parents in Granary Square interacted with their strollers that they had a lot of trinkets and loose items that they needed to put somewhere. The small storage containers that I could put on my shelter would be perfect for holding small trinkets like toys and snacks that the parent might have that they could easily lose.

Materials 2

I was thinking of using the gingham material that I found in the library, but then I realized that it was too soft and flimsy to hold the basket that I wanted to put on the stroller shade. I decided on this hat material because it was pretty strong but also gave a comfortable feel when under the hat in the sun, but whilst also being protective.

Anthropologie Obelisk 1

Garden Obelisk

Found this garden obelisk and I am trying to replicate this with my model. A sort of structure to guide the plants that grow.

Recycled Things Stair Plant Holder

Recycled Things Stair Plant Holder

http://www.recycled-things.com/crafts/creative-things-to-do-with-wooden-pallets/

This plant holder I found as I was looking through gardeners blogs (because then I get a good view of what products gardeners like and which ones they want improvement on). I saw this plant holder and thought about how it would go in a building or rural house where there isn't much space for a garden. Then I thought about how I could make a design like this retract and I thought that it would actually be really easy to retract if I just made the pot part of the stairs go into each other. This would make the design easy to fold up if the owner needs space in their apartment. And it could maybe be converted into maybe a wall decoration or something after it is used as a garden.

Railing Planter

Railing Planter: Description

Description:

https://www.urbilis.com/railing-planter-set-of-2/

This revolutionary balcony planter provides a unique and modern solution for the urban gardener. The patented design holds securely to railings of any shape up to 4" wide without the need for screws or brackets. Two removable and cleanable trays provide easy, no drip drainage. Made from an eco-friendly and durable polypropylene, this beautiful planter resists UV rays and all weather conditions, so the bright color and material will last for years without fading or becoming brittle.

Railing Planter: Analysis

This is the direction I want to go in: a planter that can hang on anyone's balcony no matter the shape of the balcony because all balconies have a ledge that you can hang things over. I really like how this planter is made out of a durable but eco-friendly and recyclable material. It also has a built-in drainage solution with two removable & cleanable trays. This is a good idea because I want my product to be sustainable and recycling the water that it uses.

Wall Mount Indoor/Outdoor Vertical Pocket Planter

Wall Mount Indoor/Outdoor Vertical Pocket Planter

https://www.gogetglam.com/products/wall-mount-indoor-outdoor-vertical-pocket-planter?variant=32740222924

I really like this pocket hanger design because it doesn't particularly show the product as much as it showcases the plants. I can see this hanging over a balcony ledge and display the beautiful flowers/plants. This is good because the flowers just drape over the pockets instead of poking out annoyingly.

Co-Create Project

Locket

I love the idea of a locket and some sort of keepsake for you and something that is special to you, yourself (or whoever is wearing the piece of jewellery). I think we should include this kind of container for a personal object in our project. I also would want to make something like this but maybe a little nicer looking because as it is something for utility, it would be really cool as something that would be fashionable and something that the user likes to look at as well.

Lokai Earth and Water Bracelet

Lokai Earth and Water Bracelet Description

Each Lokai is infused with elements from the highest and lowest points on Earth. The white bead carries water from Mt. Everest, and the black bead contains mud from the Dead Sea. These extreme elements are a reminder to the wearer to find balance – staying humble during life’s highs and hopeful during its lows.

Lokai Earth and Water Bracelet Reflection

I love how this bracelet looks cool and has special materials embedded into it. I think it creates sort of a story or unique artefact for the user and makes them feel like they are a part of something bigger by having these sacred materials on their person. This would be a cool idea if we wanted to make sort of a keepsake kind of jewellery.

Faceted Terrariums

Faceted Terrariums

These Terrariums are perfect for a jewellery piece because they have a nice geometric shape (which is very in right now) but also is very structured. I also really like how they are see through/made out of glass so you can clearly see in and see the life that is inside. This could be a cool pin or button that can go as like a clothes accessory.

Blade Runner Inspiration

Blade Runner Inspiration

Liked this idea of blade runner and the decrepit society that doesn't treasure much, so something so wholesome and lively as a plant would be a cool contrast.
